The Buckley Lab

Our research is aimed at understanding animal immune systems from an evolutionary perspective with a primary focus on marine invertebrates.  We use the larval stage of the purple sea urchin to understand different aspects of immune system evolution. Using this morphologically simple, transparent, feeding animal, we ask questions about both the conserved mechanisms that regulate immune response and also the novel mechanisms used to generate immune system diversity
